Starting today, however, the social media juggernaut will expand on how it uses the technology by notifying you when someone uploads pictures with you in them, even if you weren't tagged in them. They include the ability "to choose whether to tag yourself, leave yourself untagged, or reach out to the person who posted the photo if you have concerns about it", according to Candela's post.

It's easy to identify your face if Facebook is only looking for you among the photos your friends have uploaded.
Candela went on to say that Facebook will respect the privacy setting people select when posting a photo, meaning "you won't receive a notification if you're not in the audience".
There will also be a new on/off switch for all facial recognition features on Facebook. "Our technology analyzes the pixels in photos you're already tagged in and generates a string of numbers we call a template", said Joaquin Quiñonero Candela, Facebook's director of Applied Machine Learning, in the blog post. The only time you won't be notified is if you aren't part of the audience for the content.
The feature builds on technology Facebook already uses to suggest tags or labels for people in photos users post. "When photos and videos are uploaded to our systems, we compare those images to the template".
Facebook will also allow users to ignore a conversation in Messenger and move it out of your inbox without having to block the sender. Although it does not appear to have been implemented yet, Facebook will soon allow users to turn off facial recognition on their accounts with a single switch.
