In his address, Modi also said that Congress under Indira Gandhi got to rule 18 states but the BJP and its allies were in power in 19 states as of now. "Now they should not blame us", he said.

Asked if the NCP and the Congress will join hands for the next general and Maharashtra assembly polls, Munde said, "My hunch is that the BJP will hold the assembly elections along with general elections, which will be held in the summer of 2019". "In the coming times, you will see this clearly", he said.

Rahul also hit out at Modi's Gujarat model of development, describing it as "good propaganda" and marketing, but "hollow from within".

Exhorting party workers to nurture young talent, he praised party president Amit Shah, recalling his association with Mr. Shah, and how he groomed him despite the 14-year age difference between them.

"The country wants to know that you talked non-stop of corruption".

Rahul said Gujarat sent out a message to the BJP and Modi that the "anger" within them would not work. "Yes, we lost but Gujarat's people taught me not to stoop low even if the opposition is ruthless".

Emphasising hard work, he said the day the campaign in Gujarat concluded, he was in Delhi to attend an all-party meeting in Parliament and toured many States in the interregnum, inviting others to do the same.

Responding to a question about Modi's assertion that the BJP's win was an endorsement of his development agenda and economic reforms like the GST, the Congress president said, "It is unusual as in his poll speeches he did not talk about development, nor about GST and note ban".

Gehlot expressed satisfaction over performance of the Congress in the polls, even as he echoed the allegation the BJP of "misusing government machinery" during the elections. He also received an indirect ovation from Modi's alliance partner Shiv Sena which said the BJP had "barely managed to pass" the electoral exam but was pretending to have passed with distinction.

"This is how the Congress treated us and the NCP made a decision to go ahead".

"They should take the lead in this". Several Congress leaders, including those who lost the elections, alleged that the BJP misused the "official machinery" and its "money power" to influence electorates in favour of the BJP candidates.

Upbeat over the BJP's win in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked party MPs not to get distracted by Rahul Gandhi questioning his (Modi's) credibility and told them to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots by promoting young leaders for the 2019 Lok Sabha election. "Our (NCP) desire is that the Opposition should be united to take on the BJP", Malik said.

The Congress ally Bharatiya Tribal Party won two seats, and along with an independent backed by it winning his seat, the tally of the Congress-led alliance stood at 80, 12 short of the simple majority in the 182-member Assembly.
