Sawai Madhopur accident: Juvenile was driving the bus

About 20 persons are feared dead as a bus in which they were travelling plunged into Banas river in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan on Saturday morning. The driver of the bus lost control over the bus and it fell into the river Banas after breaking the railing of the bridge, the police said.

An ex gratia of 2 lakhs was announced by Rajasthan government for the bereaved and 50,000 to the injured. The victims, who were from various Indian states, were on their way to a nearby Hindu temple in Lalsot, a town in Rajasthan state, for pilgrimage. They have also said that impact on the bus and skid marks on the bridge suggest that speed of the bus was on or above 70 kms/hour. Two dozen persons are injured in the accident. Soorwal police station SHO Anoop Singh said that of the 33 people killed, seven are women and four children. She added that she has spoken to officials and is apprised of the situation.

The accident happened at Dubi in Sawai Madhopur district.
