  • An error left Mary Horomanski of Erire Pa. with a $284 billion electric bill

The electricity provider later said the actual amount was $284.46.

"We had Christmas lights outside, but we don't have the Christmas Vacation lights", Horomanski said. The "good news" was that her minimum payment was only $28,176.

"My eyes just about popped out of my head", she told the Erie Times-News.

Mary Horomanski, 58, was not expecting to have to pay such an amount for her Eire, Pennsylvania, residence when she went to check her electric bill from Penelec. A call from Horomanski's son fixed things right up, as Fox News reported.

Horomanski, suspecting that something was off with her bill, sent a text message to her son to contact the electric company about the issue.

A spokesman for Penelec's parent company First Energy addressed the incorrect bill situation, suggesting that a decimal point must have been accidentally moved.

"I can't recall ever seeing a bill for billions of dollars", Mark Durbin told the Erie Times-News.

'We appreciate the customer's willingness to reach out to us about the mistake'. She told her son to give her a heart beat monitor as a Christmas present.
