After already sending 100 contract line workers to support recovery efforts, Duke is sending employees from the midwest, Carolinas and Florida.

A local company is transporting power to Puerto Rico to help the victims of Hurricane Maria.

Now, more than three months after Hurricane Maria, about half of the island's 3.3 million people are still without power.

Officials say they have begun rounding up crews and gathering resources and plan to have linemen and personnel arriving within the first two weeks of January.

A total of 56 pieces of equipment and restoration vehicles will be readied to travel by barge to San Juan, Puerto Rico on January 2, 2018.

The crew was sent to Virginia Tuesday, where they'll be loaded onto a barge and transported to the US territory.

Dominion joins other companies in the power restoration efforts. "EEI, our member companies, and our industry trade partners remain fully committed to supporting PREPA and doing all we can to assist our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico".

The Federal Emergency Management Agency reports on its website that power has been restored to 65.4 percent of the unincorporated USA territory since Maria ravaged the US territory.

"This is a massive and unprecedented restoration mission, and I want to thank FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers for the tremendous work that they have done and continue to do for the people of Puerto Rico", said Kuhn.
