Swedish based mega clothing brand Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) has apologised for a photo featuring a black child wearing a green hoodie printed "coolest monkey in the jungle".

Since the retail image surfaced, many have voiced their frustrations, via social media, on how H&M could so obviously miss the mark. The company replaced the image with one of the sweatshirt alone, and initially kept the product for sale on its website.

"This image has now been removed from all H&M channels and we apologize to anyone this may have offended", said H&M spokeswoman Anna Eriksson.

Questlove predicted early Monday that H&M would strike a conciliatory note, but the Roots' drummer/band leader also seemed to be saying it wouldn't be enough. "We sincerely apologize for this image", the company said. "We, who work at H&M, can only agree", an H&M rep told Pitchfork. It is obvious that our routines have not been followed properly.

As previously reported, the Weeknd struck up a partnership with H&M previous year, developing his own fashion line for the Swedish retail giant.

"Woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo", the pop star shared on Twitter today (Jan. 8). "We will thoroughly investigate why this happened to prevent this type of mistake from happening again".
