  • Dustin Johnson of the United States plays his shot from the 15th tee during the final round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Plantation Course at Kapalua Golf Club

Dustin Johnson hit one of the best shots he never saw.

DUSTIN JOHNSON put the memory of his final-round collapse at the HSBC Champions in China well and truly behind him as he romped to an eight-shot victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.

Dustin Johnson's best asset is not the incredible power and precision he uses for nuclear drives but rather it is his ability to forget just about everything.

Johnson, who held a two-shot lead going into the final day of the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, absolutely smashed a ball from 433 yards. "I didn't want it to have to come down to the last couple holes", he said.

"I knew I was playing well, and it's a golf course I'm really comfortable on", Johnson said.

"I try to forget everything, " he said.

If his ball had consented to drop on the 12 in Kapalua, Johnson would have become just the player in PGA Tour history to make an ace on anything other than a par three (emulating Andrew Magee's feat at the Phoenix Open in 2001). "I just didn't think I was going to have a tap-in". Johnson has now won at least one PGA Tour event in all 11 of his seasons since his rookie year in 2008 - the longest active streak on Tour. Jordan Spieth also won by eight shots in 2016.

He played the 12th hole in four shots on the weekend. "I got off to the right start, for sure", he said.

"Winning every year out here on TOUR so far is big for me".

"I want a lot more wins". "More for myself and confidence, after what happened in Shanghai, I wanted to prove to myself that I still. that ain't going to happen again".

When he was in this sort of mood a year ago he won three straight events at the Genesis Open, World Golf Championships - Mexico Championship and the World Golf Championships - Dell Match Play.
