  • 'Roseanne' Reboot Shows A Family 'That Is Divided By Politics'

The award-winning 1990s sitcom is returning to the ABC network in March, and actress Roseanne Barr says her choice to depict her working-class character as pro-Trump is "realistic". "Of course, I love Oprah like everybody else".

John Goodman, who played her husband on the show, is returning for the revival along with most of the original cast. Also, since the show's (finally credited) creator and star Roseanne Barr is an outspoken Republican, it's nearly expected that the reboot of her iconic series would mention Trump.

"I always tried to have [Roseanne] be a true reflection of the society we live in".

In the past, Barr has not shied away from discussing her dislike of former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton saying, "Hillary owns the press...people in this country are not allowed to say anything except for that they love Hillary, or they'll be harassed, especially on social media, until they leave or hang their head in shame..."

The show's creators didn't say if any other characters will be portrayed as Trump supporters. But it was Roseanne Barr's personal politics that dominated the conversation.

The March revival of hit 1990s television comedy Roseanne will show how a politically divided, working-class American family grapples with daily life and challenges after the election of US President Donald Trump, the show's stars said on Monday. There are a lot of things he's said and done that I don't agree with, just like there are a lot of things Hillary Clinton has said and done that you don't agree with.

Barr was pushed to defend her character's support for Trump in light of what a reporter called his racism and xenophobia. I'm not a Trump apologist. Here's what she had to say.

She continued, "One bright thing I read today is, this is the lowest black unemployment for many, many years, so I think that's great". "Nobody is brainwashed into agreeing with 100 per cent of what anybody said". "I was anxious that people wouldn't want to touch [Roseanne], that everybody was proud of it and wanted to leave it alone and not risk anything", Gilbert said.

"Actually, I think I'd be a better president than Oprah and Susan Sarandon, probably even President Trump. I think that's a great way to fight racism is that everybody has a job".

Though she initially tried to avoid talking about politics during the panel, an odd move considering the subject matter of the reboot, Barr eventually addressed the Trump of it all at the panel's increased prompting.
