In a strongly worded statement the ANC in the Sarah Baartman Region says the sooner Jacob Zuma steps down from the Presidency the better, labelling his efforts to hold on to the position as "unprincipled conduct".

"Because our people want this matter to be finalized, the national executive committee will be doing precisely that", he said.

The party's National Executive Committee has the power to instruct Zuma to resign.

Talks about a transition of power are due to be concluded within a matter of days, Ramaphosa said in a statement on Wednesday.

Yesterday, News24 reported that five of the top six in the ANC had pulled out of all mass mobilisation events that were planned for Cape Town because officials had been summoned to Gauteng for urgent matters.

"It's her own personal view, as family.we still believe in the democratically elected leadership of the ANC under the leadership of Comrade Ramaphosa, whom we will all support to lead the country beyond", Zuma's son Edward Zuma told the SABC on Saturday.

President Jacob Zuma has reportedly tabled a number of conditions which will need to be fulfilled before he steps down as South Africa's president.

Ramaphosa says discussions that he has held with Zuma had to be conducted with "care and purpose" and with the aim of uniting South Africans.

But Ramaphosa put paid to all the claims when he declared: "It is the interests of you, our people, that must be put first, and not the interests of anyone else".

In his speech, the deputy president said the government will wage a "relentless war against corruption and mismanagement of the resources of our country" and that the justice system will punish the guilty.

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) will this year launch a set of commemorative South African banknotes in honour of what would have been Nelson Mandela's centenary.

He also saluted "such freedom fighters as Sheik Yusuf, Dr Abdullah Abdurahman, Cissy Gool, Alex La Guma, ZR Mahabane, Oscar Mpetha, Philip Kgosana, Ray Alexander, Dora Tamana, John Mtini, Reg September, Dullah Omar, Ben Turok, Annie Silinga, Essa Moosa, Johnny Issel, Jakes Gerwel, Archie Sibeko, Ashley Kriel and many others who were drawn from Cape Town".

After missing out on becoming Nelson Mandela's deputy when the anti-apartheid icon swept to power in 1994, Ramaphosa withdrew from politics, switching focus to business.

He then revealed that the NEC meeting "urgently" convened for Monday in Centurion would make the final decision.

Speaking outside the Methodist church, he said he also wanted to thank people for their prayers and good wishes for the ruling party.
