  • Report: Battlefield 2 Is Battlefield 2018, Set During WWII (Update)

Internally, it was rumoured that the game was originally called Battlefield 2, but it's now been changed to Battlefield V to avoid confusion with the previous Battlefield game with the same title. Battlefield 5 will be an all-new game in itself, so it will only share the same World War II setting as the older games and nothing else more than that.

In fact, according to the report, EA and DICE decided long ago that the futuristic setting wasn't where they wanted to keep the franchise.

At this point, it seems like the next Battlefield being set during World War II is all but a lock, so are you excited to see the series once again tackle the Big One? This led the studio to start with WWI knowing that it could always still go to WWII with the next game if Battlefield 1 didn't work out.

Battlefield 1 was a big success for EA, though it's about time for the next game in the series to take the mantle. Bad Company 2 is still considered by many to be the best ever Battlefield video game ever made. EA already confirmed this to investors stating that instead of Anthem a new Battlefield game will be released, albeit not stating if it would be Battlefield V or Battlefield: Bad Company 3.

It's also worth mentioning the report says this will not just be a remake of Battlefield 2. That said, DICE is listening to fans of Bad Company, and it is keeping a potential sequel in its back pocket in case it needs to make another strategic shift in the future.
