  • Tri-series: First 2 wickets did us in, says Dhawan

"Hopefully, we'll get it", said Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah after losing their first match against India in Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh's captain, Mahmudullah, urged his team-mates to focus on their strengths and not think too much about whether this was a second-string Indian team they were playing against in the Nidahas Trophy.

The batsman in the limelight was Shabbir Rahaman (30 runs, 26 balls), whose power hitting towards the end gave Bangaldesh's total, a hint of respect. The wicket got better and better the other day. So after six overs, we were maybe five to six runs short than what we usually achieve, but on this track, I felt 170 was a good score. "We are going with 5 bowlers and 6 batters".

Rohit Sharma - skipper in the absence of Virat Kohli - chopped Mustafizur Rahman onto his stumps on 17 in the fourth over but Dhawan and Suresh Raina (28) forged a 68-run partnership that proved key to the victory. Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and made a decision to field first.

Dushmantha Chameera had Rohit Sharma miscue a ball high into the air, to be caught brilliantly by Jeevan Mendis running back from mid-off.

Sharma refused to blame the defeat on the inexperienced bowling line up - Vijay Shankar, Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur had played a combined six T20 Internationals between them including Tuesday's game. "What we can do is play some good cricket on that particular day, if we can do so, execute our skills, hopefully we can do something good".

Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal (15) and Soumya Sarkar (14) tried to take benefit of the powerplay but in the third over medium pacer Jaydev Unadkat dismissed Sarkar to make it 20/1. Sundar bowled as many as 13 dot balls in those first six overs. We need to rotate the strike more often. I have been working very hard and really happy to be winning this. Not only were they finding it hard to middle the ball but also ended up playing out 57 dots.

Talking about the improvements in his bolwers' show as compared to the previous match, Rohit said: "We looked into what went wrong in the game against Sri Lanka and we thought hitting the length was the option for us".
