  • Marvels Jessica Jones Season 2

Season two arrives on the streaming service today (March 8).

Need something new to watch on Netflix?

The subject matter explored in both seasons of Jessica Jones ties in perfectly to International Women's Day's theme.

Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss the show's second season. It opened on an abrasive alcoholic and her deeply ingrained trauma, on a double homicide of parents by their daughter, and Marvel's most fearsome small screen villain, if not an all-time contender.

Jeri's illness - and the way her partners are using it to force her out - is exposing us to a soft underbelly that no one knew she had. "She's nearly afraid of her power and it strikes me that she's anxious that she's going to lose control of herself".

For the first season, the show shot under the High Line, filmed on Eighth Ave., and also used Chelsea's London Terrace as an establishing shot for one of the show's reoccurring locations, according to Covino. Particularly one that swings to and fro like Trish and Jessica's, as they navigate their love for and frustration with each other in equal measure, and their overwhelming desire to keep each other safe.

Ritter's Jones is the most fascinating character in Netflix's Marvel canon because she's not who we think she is, and certainly not who we want her to be.

Taylor teases a more thorough glimpse into not just Jessica's backstory, but Trish's as well. "We get to the end of season one and Jessica is forced to kill someone", she says.

It's hard to believe that it was ever just going to be a one-off. Trish (Rachael Taylor) and Jessica spend many scenes talking in circles about why Jess should stop running from the past and such.

After two seasons of Daredevil and a single season each for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, that finally came to pass with The Defenders debuting with eight episodes this past summer on Netflix. As and when the action does arrive, it is always with a goal to show the inherent weakness of Jessica's resolve and emotions, juxtaposed with her strength, shown through a gaping hole in a wall, in a vehicle or in someone's face.

Aussie actor Eka Darville appeared in rebooted Power Rangers series RPM, and has also featured in Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals. Who is Janet McTeer playing? Unlike most superhero origin stories, Jessica's source of her powers is a mystery even to her.

McTeer adds. "She's complicated". She followed this up with another Academy Award nomination for her supporting role in 2011 movie Albert Nobbs.

Jessica's anger reflects that of many women fed up with being mistreated.

RITTER: (As Jessica Jones) Why?

As an interesting aside, in real life IGH refers to "immunoglobulin heavy locus", a region on human chromosome 14 that has a gene for the heavy chains of antibodies.

Born in North Cyprus and raised in London, actor Hal Ozsan made his TV break on Dawson's Creek, before going on to feature in series including 90210, Kyle XY and The Blacklist.

With the exception of The Defenders, every season set within this universe has featured a run of 13 episodes and, to varying degrees, they haven't had enough story to fill them.

In a recent interview with Vulture regarding the upcoming second season premiere of Jessica Jones, series star Krysten Ritter was asked about the disappointing reception for The Defenders.
