  • Austin police investigate an officer-involved shooting on La Naranja Lane

For the second and third time this month, someone left packages containing bombs at homes in Austin, Texas, killing two people and wounding two others.

Police said they believe the person or people delivering the package did so at night, and are warning people to be aware of deliveries they are not expecting.

"We do know that both of the homes that were the recipients of these packages belong to African Americans, so we can not rule out that hate crime is at the core of this, but we are not saying that that's the cause", he said.

A man died at his home at the beginning of March after a "device" exploded, police say.

It has not provided further details about the Monday explosion, or if there are any links to the other incident this month. 39-year-old Anthony Stephan House died in the first explosion. Note that all the locations on the maps are approximate, as we've only been given the block that an explosion took place and not the exact house address. The bomb was big enough to destroy the front porch of the house.

Abbott said the Texas Criminal Justice Division is offering the reward for information leading to the "arrest of the person or persons involved in the deadly package blasts". The map above is an interactive map showing the approximate location of the bomb.

Local police, as well as agencies including the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are working on the case. It's now considered a homicide. "She picked up the package, and at that point, the explosion, the box detonated", Manley said. Learn more about House in Heavy's story here. The victim in the incident came outside of her home to retrieve a package left on her front step, which exploded. A woman in her 70s was taken to an area hospital "with serious potentially life threatening injuries", according to the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Service. Five hours later, another explosion occurred five miles away.

The first Monday blast was reported at 6:44 a.m.in the 4000 block of Oldfort Drive and the second Monday blast was around noon in the 6700 block of Galindo Street.

Authorities said earlier that the woman's injuries were life-threatening, but Manley says she'll survive.

Many took to social media to express their grievances and reactions to the bombing incidents, including the official account of SXSW, the annual festival that is now occurring in Austin. Packages should not be touched; instead, Manley said to "go to the back of the residence and stay there" until law enforcement arrives to clear the area. That could mean a package that wasn't expected, a package from someone you weren't expecting to receive a package from or a package that gives you cause for concern.

Police didn't immediately identify the teenager killed on Monday. That incident was classified as a homicide. The police have warned citizens against opening unusual packages. USPS says it did not deliver the second package.
