According to reports in the Times of India, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is all set to join English County side Surrey in a bid to boost his preparations for India's upcoming tour of England from June 2018. Kohli has played five Tests in the country and has managed to score only 134 runs with a mediocre batting average of 13.4.

It is understood no deal is imminent but that Surrey did make an inquiry about the possibility of signing Kohli, only to be told the prolific middle-order batsman would be unavailable on worldwide duty elsewhere after the Indian Premier League.

The first Test begins on August 1 at Edgbaston In doing so, the skipper will miss Afghanistan's debut Test in India to be hosted in Bengaluru starting June 14 and will instead head to the south of London post the Indian Premier League (IPL). Virat Kohli will play county cricket this summer. Kohli and the team management are aware that runs from the skipper are key to the team's fortunes in the series in which India will play five Tests. I wouldn't like to add anything more to it. "There were talks with Surrey and Essex", a senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official told PTI on Saturday.

Alongside Kohli, teammate Cheteshwar Pujara is also expected to extend his stint with Yorkshire at the same time of the year.

Afghanistan will play their first ever global test match against India, a monumental achievement for the country. Surrey have played hosts to cricketers like Kumar Sangakkara, Kevin Pietersen; and Kohli will become first Indian to join their ranks. However, England remains unconquered for him.
