In a 2009 interview with United Kingdom broadcaster BBC News, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that Facebook would never sell user data. Facebook has also removed some of the outdated settings to help make it clear what information can and can't be shared with apps.

For Android and iOS mobile app users, the setting menu has gone under the knife reappearing with chunkier, more descriptive menus.

Instead of spanning across 20 different screens, settings can now be accessed from a single page.

A new Privacy Shortcuts section lets you "control your data in just a few taps, with clearer explanations of how our controls work", say Facebook chief privacy officer Erin Egan and the company's general counsel Ashlie Beringer in the post.

From this page users can attend their account security layers (like two-factor authentication), control their personal info and advertising, and restrict the visibility of their profile info to other users.

Finally, Facebook will allow users to securely manage information and posts shared on the platform, whether its downloading this data to keep or deleting it from the site altogether.

Since then, Facebook's stock has plunged 18%, wiping out almost $80 billion from the social networking giant's market value in the process.

"We're taking additional steps in the coming weeks to put people more in control of their privacy", they confirmed.

As concerns escalate about Facebook's collection and use of personal data, now may be the wrong time to ask consumers to trust it with even more information by placing a connected device in their homes.

After you enter your password, it will send all of the data to the email address connected with your Facebook account, which took about 15 minutes when Rossen completed the process.

Authorities in Britain have seized data from Cambridge Analytica in their investigation, and European Union officials have warned of consequences for Facebook. They may also delete anything from their timeline or profile using this tab.

Last week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged his company had "made mistakes", and announced a range of measures in response - including an audit of all apps that had access to large amounts of information.

Facebook is also pledging to update its terms of service and data policy to improve "transparency".

The new controls also better spell out what data the company collects and how it's used.

But in the lawsuit filed on Tuesday in the US District Court in Manhattan, the National Fair Housing Alliance and affiliates in New York, San Antonio and Miami contend that Facebook's advertising platform "continues to enable landlords and real estate brokers to bar families with children, women and others from receiving rental and sales ads for housing".
